Wake Forest Crash Survivor Hopes for Christmas Miracle

Dan Brian   |  December 19, 2014   |

Three months ago, a fatal crash on Capital Boulevard in Wake Forest left one high school student dead and four others injured.

Now, one of the injured teens is speaking out in hopes that her Christmas wish will come true.

Sixteen-year-old Skyla Kirby was injured when a vehicle driven by Faith Rock, 17, was involved in a three-car accident after Rock failed to yield to an oncoming vehicle. The crash killed Faith’s brother, Braden, and sent four people to the hospital, including Skyla, Faith, 16-year-old Katie Williams, and 17-year-old Oscar Rodriguez-Villa.

Skyla’s Physical Therapy

Skyla’s injuries required her to use a wheelchair and perform a grueling regimen of physical therapy. After weeks of hard work, Skyla can now walk on her own.

One of the things which kept Skyla motivated to continue her physical therapy was thoughts of her 9-month old puppy named Dakota. Dakota also has problems walking and needs surgery to correct problems with her kneecaps.

Skyla will need to continue physical therapy for the next 2 to 4 months. She hopes that as she recovers, she can find a way to help her canine companion walk again as well. The surgery Dakota needs costs approximately $1,800 per leg.
