North Carolina School Bus Crashes
According to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, school buses transport more than 790,000 North Carolina students every year. While school buses are generally safe, the NCDPI reports there are approximately 770 school bus crashes annually, resulting in more than 720 injuries and nearly 10 fatalities each year.
While school bus crashes can be caused by mechanical error, in some instances driver negligence is to blame for school bus accidents in North Carolina. The school bus driver or the driver of another vehicle is sometimes at fault, and in these cases the driver(s) and/or school district can face criminal and/or civil charges.
