Raleigh Considered 17th Worst City for Bedbug Infestation

The Raleigh/Durham/Fayetteville area came in at number 17 in the United States for cities with a bedbug problem.

Although bedbugs used to be confined to being a problem in hotels, they are now beginning to overtake residential homes. Unfortunately, bedbugs travel so if you stay somewhere with a bedbug infestation, you could be bringing them into your home without even realizing it.

Knowing the signs of a bedbug invasion can help you stop the problem before it gets worse.

  • Bedbugs are large, about the size of an apple seed, and are visible to the naked eye
  • Most bedbugs hide in the cracks and crevices around the mattress, box spring and headboard – check these areas for bedbugs
  • Check your sheets and look for markings
  • Bedbug bites are usually on the arms and shoulders and the bites are typically red and itchy

If you are traveling, make sure you inspect the mattress and sheets for any potential signs of bedbugs. Additionally, placing your suitcase in the bathroom or tub can prevent the bugs from latching onto your clothing or the cloth on the suitcase.

There are many treatment options for getting rid of bedbugs, but for many individuals the loss of heirloom furniture and other possessions can be devastating. Make sure you create a schedule for checking for bedbugs as the city’s bedbug woes continue.
