Does Metformin Cause Kidney Cancer?

No scientific studies have established a direct, causal relationship between Metformin and kidney cancer, but NDMA contamination means that there may be an elevated Metformin kidney cancer risk. Other cancers such as stomach cancer and bladder cancer may be similarly linked.

A recent study published by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) determined that rats exposed to NDMA were more likely to develop kidney cancer. 

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has similarly raised caution about a potential risk of kidney cancer associated with NDMA.
