Xarelto Injury Lawyers

If you or a loved one has suffered from a bleeding or clotting complication after taking Xarelto, you may have suffered a serious side effect as a result of the blood thinner. You may be able to file a lawsuit and seek financial compensation from the pharmaceutical manufacturer for the injuries that you or your family experienced. The attorneys at Riddle & Brantley are investigating patients’ legal options after a Xarelto injury, and would like to speak with you about your experiences.

What is Xarelto?

First approved by the FDA in 2011, Xarelto (rivaroxaban) is a blood thinner with three primary uses: reducing the risk of blood clots and stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation, treating deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolisms, and reducing the risk of blood clots in patients undergoing knee or hip replacement surgery.

In order to prevent the potentially fatal consequences of a blood clot, an anticoagulant medication like Xarelto may be prescribed. Patients who take blood thinners must be very careful to prevent injury, as anyone on a medication like Xarelto will not be able to clot naturally after a wound and could bleed to death.

Complications from Xarelto

Warfarin (Coumadin) is a blood thinner that has been used for over 50 years. Drugs like Xarelto and Pradaxa are relatively new medications meant to replace the older drug.

The blood-thinning effects of warfarin can be reversed with a shot of Vitamin K. If the patient does start bleeding, the antidote shot will allow the body to start clotting naturally, preventing a patient from bleeding to death. Xarelto, however, does not have such an antidote. One major complication of Xarelto is that patients who begin hemorrhaging may not be able to stop, leading to massive blood loss and possibly death.

In addition, some Xarelto patients have reported suffering from greater numbers of blood clots after taking the drug, which has led to strokes, pulmonary embolisms, deep vein thrombosis, and other possibly fatal side effects.

Xarelto Lawsuits

Adverse side effects of Xarelto have increased dramatically as the drug becomes more common. Xarelto side effects are being reported at a rate of 2 to 1 over Pradaxa, the other new drug thinner on the market.

You and your family rely on your doctor and your medication to keep you healthy. If Xarelto’s manufacturer failed to inform you or your doctor of the potential side effects, or you suffered unforeseen adverse reactions after taking Xarelto, you may have grounds to file a lawsuit.
