What are the side effects of Belviq?

While many patients report no significant Belviq side effects, a number of potentially serious side effects have been reported. According to WebMD, common Belviq (lorcaserin) side effects include:

• Nausea
• Dry mouth
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Constipation
• Tiredness

Other potentially serious Belviq side effects include:

• Easy bleeding and/or bruising
• Enlarged breast or abnormal breast milk production
• Mental or mood changes, such as confusion, depression, suicidal thoughts, unusual agitation, or difficulty with memory and/or attention
• Shaking and/or twitching muscles
• Slow, fast, or irregular heartbeat
• Shortness of breath
• Swelling of ankles, feet, or hands
• Unexplained fever

• Lung cancer
• Breast cancer

In a 2007 study by the company that developed Belviq, Arena Pharmaceuticals, Belviq reportedly caused rare and aggressive cancer tumors in rats, according to reporting by Westfair.

Multiple Belviq cancer lawsuits have already been filed alleging that Arena Pharmaceuticals and Eisai Inc., the manufacturer of Belviq that licensed the medication from Arena, were aware of these potentially life-threatening Belviq side effects and continued marketing the drug anyway.
