Federal Court Dismisses Zantac Lawsuits

Dismissal Affects Over 50,000 Cancer Claims Against Zantac

Thousands of Zantac lawsuits have been dismissed, but plaintiffs' attorneys have vowed to appeal.A federal judge overseeing multi-district litigation (MDL) has dismissed more than 50,000 Zantac lawsuits, alleging that the popular heartburn medication caused various types of cancer. In her decision, Judge Robin Rosenburg found that experts testifying on behalf of plaintiffs failed to demonstrate that ranitidine contamination in Zantac causes cancer. She cited "unreliable methodologies," "a lack of documentation for how studies were conducted," and "a lack of statistically significant data," among other reasons in support of her decision. FEBRUARY 2023 UPDATE: Due to recent developments in the litigation, our firm is no longer accepting Zantac claims. Please stay tuned to our website for the latest information and updates.

Plaintiffs Will Appeal the Decision

While attorneys for plaintiffs expressed disappointment in Judge Rosenburg's ruling, they are already moving forward with an appeal. Legal experts have conflicting opinions regarding the likelihood that the Federal Court for the Southern District of Florida's ruling will be overturned, allowing the Zantac lawsuits to move forward. Riddle & Brantley remains hopeful that this disappointing decision will be overturned on appeal. We believe that victims of cancer potentially caused by Zantac deserve justice, and we will continue to fight tirelessly on their behalf.
"We are disappointed in the District Court's dismissal of Zantac lawsuits but remain hopeful that the US Court of Appeals will overturn the decision."
