Liberty Road and I-40 Interchange in Candler: Project Details

NCDOT is planning to add an interchange for I-40 at Liberty Road in Candler. Motorists must currently use the interchange at US-19/23 (Exit 44) or the interchange at Wiggins Road (Exit 37), and the new Liberty Rd / I-40 interchange will improve traffic flow. The project will also improve response times for emergency vehicles in the area.

NCDOT states on its I-40 interchange / Liberty Rd project page that the $41.1 million project will improve connectivity in western Buncombe County.

I-40 is one of the busiest and most important east-west roadways in western North Carolina. It serves as the primary route into Asheville, one of western North Carolina’s largest cities. Interstate 40 will be widened from 4 to 8 lanes near Asheville in the future.
