Common Work Injuries
Located in the Piedmont, Greensboro is a fast-growing city. The 2020 Census reported a population of around 300,000 in the city. Greensboro is adding roughly 30,000 residents per year. It is still the third most populous city in our state and is called the “Gateway City” as it is known for its highways, transportation, and manufacturing. Federal Express and Dell both have locations in Greensboro. It’s therefore no surprise that many workplace accidents occur in Greensboro and the surrounding Triad area. Whether you’re working in an office, on a construction site, driving a truck, or working in one of Greensboro’s many factories, work accidents can happen anytime.
Since 1985, the workers’ comp lawyers at Riddle & Brantley have assisted North Carolinians who have suffered all types of injuries on the job, including:
- Traumatic Brain injuries
- Loss of limbs (hands, feet, arms, or legs)
- Back injuries
- Shoulder injuries
- Neck injuries
- Spinal cord injuries
- Knee, hip, and joint injuries
- Crush injuries
- Construction accident injuries
- Third-degree burns
- Occupational disease resulting from toxic chemical and substance exposure
- Asbestos exposure-related diseases like mesothelioma (there will also be a claim against a fund set up for compensation to mesothelioma survivors or beneficiaries)
- Death
We help clients in all industries and occupations, including office workers, law enforcement officers, medical staff, construction workers, truck drivers, factory and warehouse workers, and more.
In the most heartbreaking cases, our North Carolina wrongful death lawyers also represent the families of those tragically killed on the job. When a workplace accident results in long-term disability, a Social Security disability attorney can help you seek those benefits, as well.
If you or a loved one has suffered an injury at work, the workers’ comp attorneys at Riddle & Brantley would love to help.
Our firm has been representing clients in workers’ compensation claims across the state since 1985 and will do everything we can to make the entire process as stress-free as possible for you.

“What Can a Workers’ Comp Lawyer Do for My Work Injury Case?”
When you hire a workers’ compensation attorney, you’ll receive more than just a powerful advocate. A Riddle & Brantley workplace accident lawyer can guide you through the maze of legal challenges that you may face in your work injury claim, including making sure:
- You don’t waive your rights
- You don’t accept a settlement below fair value
- Your claim is properly and timely filed with your employer, the workers’ compensation carrier, and the NC Industrial Commission (Form 18)
- Your notice includes all injuries
- Medical bills are properly filed using Industrial Commission forms and paid in a timely manner (your bill should never go to collection)
- The adjuster and assigned insurance company case manager do not communicate inappropriately with your doctor(s)
- You receive disability checks on time (this can be frustrating and complicated)
- Your average weekly wage is calculated correctly
- The insurance company approves all necessary medical procedures, tests, and prescriptions in a reasonable timeframe
- You receive compensation for mileage related to your medical appointments
- You receive appropriate re-education and/or vocational training if necessary
- You get a qualified second opinion from a doctor that is unbiased if needed
- You’re not forced to return to work in a position created specifically to avoid paying lost wage benefits
- You do not miss any deadlines or get barred from your claim by statutes of limitations (this can be complicated and is usually 2 years from the date of the accident)
- and much, much more…
Results for Injured Workers
While every case is different and there is no “average” settlement or judgment, we are proud of the results we’ve obtained for injured workers across North Carolina (see disclaimer below), including:
- $2.75 Million | Construction Accident — Our client was a construction worker who was hit by a truck in a work zone while on the job. He suffered the eventual loss of his right leg below the knee, along with other injuries. Attorney Gene Riddle and Adam Smith handled the case, negotiating separate settlements with the workers’ comp carrier and the truck insurance company totaling $2,750,000 in compensation for our deserving client.
- $2.475 Million | Workplace Fall — A construction worker fell from a platform and was critically injured, resulting in permanent disability. A team of Riddle & Brantley attorneys took on the case and fought for our client’s workers’ compensation claim. Following extensive mediations, we obtained total compensation of $2,475,000 for the victim and established two trusts to cover his long-term care.
- $1.8 Million | Truck Accident — When a truck driver was hit by another truck while on the job, he suffered serious injury, ultimately resulting in the loss of his left leg below the knee. Attorney Gene Riddle fought for justice, negotiating settlements with two insurance companies and obtaining $1,800,000 in compensation for the victim.
- $725,000 | Back Injury — An agricultural worker required numerous surgeries following a terrible back injury while on the job. Managing partner Gene Riddle took on the case, arguing successfully before the North Carolina Industrial Commission and winning a favorable decision. The claim ultimately settled for total compensation of $725,000 and we are proud to have won justice for the victim.
