Penumbra has issued a voluntary recall for all JET 7 catheters with Xtra Flex technology, and the FDA is encouraging providers and patients to make use of the Adverse Event Reporting system to report any potential injuries or complications.

The FDA has received more than 200 medical devices reports (MDRs) detailing potential injury (including comas) caused by Penumbra catheters. According to the FDA, 20 of these reports describe 14 patient deaths linked to Penumbra catheters.
