Chrysler, Ford Recall Trucks and SUVs for Various Issues

Chrysler Fiat Automobiles and Ford Motors have issued recalls due to a number of issues in their SUVs and trucks totaling a half-million in all.

Ford has recalled 204,448 Edge and Lincoln MKX crossover vehicles for potential fire hazard linked to fuel tank reinforcement brackets which may corrode, cause a leak, which could then become a fire hazard. The recall is regional and Ford confirms that it is aware of one incident resulting in fire, though no injuries or deaths were reported.

A second recall affecting more than 184,000 Jeep Grand Cherokees and Dodge Durango SUVs from 2014 stems from a software problem. The debris cover in the vehicles’ circuit board can interrupt and disable stability control.

The largest of the recalls affects 382,000 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks and Ram 4500 and 5500 chassis cabs from 2010 through 2014. Malfunctioning fuels heaters are a fire hazard in these models, which are fitted with a Cummins 6.7-litre diesel engine. In that type of engine, corrosion in the terminal could ignite a blaze. Chrysler is not aware of any injuries, accidents, or fire-related incidents in connection with this recall.

Dealers will replace terminals on the affected models, which are being recalled only in 22 states, most of which are in the Northeast and upper Midwest regions of the country.
