Johnson & Johnson to Stop Selling Baby Powder in North America
BREAKING: Johnson & Johnson has announced that it will stop selling its popular Baby Powder product in North America. The announcement was made as more than 20,000 baby powder lawsuits have been filed alleging that possible asbestos contamination in the company’s talc-based baby powder caused ovarian cancer and mesothelioma.
***PLEASE NOTE: This is a developing situation and we will have more updates as news becomes available.
Johnson & Johnson said in a statement that its decision to stop selling talcum powder-based baby powder in North America was due to manufacturing safety concerns. The company also referenced declining consumer demand due to what it called “misinformation around the safety of the product and a constant barrage of litigation advertising.”
Existing supplies of Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder will continue to be sold as available in retailers, and the company will wind down talcum powder production in North America in the coming months.
In late 2019, Johnson & Johnson recalled 33,000 bottle of baby powder after FDA testing revealed asbestos contamination.
Thought the company has lost several multi-million dollar cases in court, Johnson & Johnson has continued to maintain that its talc-based baby powder is safe.
