Moot Court Team

At Riddle & Riddle Injury Lawyers, we believe effective advocacy must be honed long before an attorney ever steps into a courtroom. It begins in the classroom, in the library, and most importantly, in the high-stakes environment of Moot Court.

We are thrilled to celebrate the recent achievements of Elon University School of Law, where student-advocates recently showcased the same level of preparation, discipline, and attention to detail that our firm strives to uphold every day.

As a firm with deep roots in North Carolina, we recognize that our responsibility to our clients begins with investing in the next generation of legal talent. This is why Riddle & Riddle Injury Lawyers was honored to sponsor the Elon Law teams as they prepared for and competed in the National Moot Court Competition.

Our commitment to the North Carolina legal community extends across the state’s premier institutions. In addition to our work with Elon, Riddle & Riddle is a proud sponsor of the trial team at Campbell University School of Law, helping students develop the sharp courtroom instincts that are the hallmark of our firm’s success.

Resilience on the National Stage

The competition, held recently at Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach, Virginia, saw Elon Law’s teams face off against some of the most prestigious programs in the country. We want to extend a special congratulations to the team of Isabel Craige and Matt Cottrell, whose hard work and oral advocacy skills propelled them into the top tiers of the regional competition.

Under the guidance of dedicated faculty members, Vice Dean and Professor of Law Alan Woodlief, along with Professor Marty McAuliffe, the director of academic and bar success, these students spent months analyzing complex legal issues. They refined their briefs and prepared their oral arguments, which they presented before multiple panels of judges.

Why We Support Moot Court

The “Riddle Legacy” has always been defined by a Justice Counts™ philosophy. To us, that means more than just winning cases; it means ensuring that the legal profession remains rigorous, ethical, and prepared.

Moot Court prepares students for the realities of advocacy, teaching them how to present clear arguments, respond to tough questions from judges, and rely on thorough research. These are the same skills required when cases are carefully developed and challenged in real legal disputes.

  • The Power of Persuasion: How to frame an argument that resonates with a judge.
  • Grace Under Pressure: The ability to pivot when a legal theory is challenged from the bench.
  • Deep Research: The foundation of every successful case is knowing your facts and doing the necessary research.

A Legacy of Giving Back

The Riddle family has a long-standing tradition of supporting the academic institutions that shape the North Carolina Bar. Founding Partner Gene Riddle is a steadfast supporter of the UNC School of Law and Wake Forest University School of Law, recognizing that a strong legal future requires a collaborative effort across all of our state’s top programs.

“We know the level of grit it takes to succeed in these competitions,” says Founding Partner Gene Riddle. “By supporting these students, we are supporting the future advocates who will one day stand up for North Carolinians in their moments of greatest need. We couldn’t be prouder of what these Elon Law teams have accomplished.”

Looking Forward

The entire team at Riddle & Riddle will cheer on these exceptional students in their future competitions and promising law careers. Their success is a reminder that when talent is combined with the right resources and mentorship, there is no limit to what can be achieved.

At Riddle & Riddle, we believe that justice matters today and for future generations.
