Personal Injury Practice Areas We Handle in Goldsboro

Our personal injury lawyers provide legal representation for all types of injury cases. Some common personal injury claims we handle involve:

Many of our attorneys and staff have close family ties to the military and we are especially proud to serve those connected to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. Our veterans benefits attorneys can help honorably discharged veterans fight for the VA benefits they need and deserve.

Personal Injury Case Results

Since 2000 alone, our personal injury attorneys have secured over $900 million dollars in total compensation for our deserving clients (see disclaimer below). We invite you to review our record of settlements and judgments, including:

  • Assault at Mental Health Facility – $60,000
An adult male client was receiving care at a mental health facility in Goldsboro, North Carolina, when he was allegedly assaulted by three healthcare technicians employed by the facility. As a result, the client suffered a broken nose, a fractured rib, and multiple bruises and abrasions. After Riddle & Riddle, LLP filed a lawsuit and sought court intervention to compel the facility to disclose prior similar incidents over the previous five years, the matter was resolved through a $60,000 settlement.
  • Motorcycle Injury Case – $1,000,000
Our client was riding his motorcycle on a service road in Goldsboro when another motorist made an unsafe turn directly into his path, causing a serious collision. The impact threw our client approximately 15 feet, and the other motorist was later cited for causing the incident. The client suffered a fracture of the left distal radius, a closed fracture of the right humerus, a severe right shoulder injury that required hemiarthroplasty, a pelvic fracture, a non-displaced posterior left acetabular roof and posterior column fracture, and a ruptured bladder. Treatment required multiple surgical procedures on the left arm as well as rotator cuff surgery. Riddle & Riddle obtained a $1,000,000 recovery, representing the full limits of the at-fault party’s insurance policy. In a related matter, the firm also secured a $30,000 recovery for an injured motorcycle rider after the insurance carrier initially denied liability.

Injury Lawyers Ready to Fight for Your Financial Compensation

Injury Lawyers Ready to Fight for Your financial compensation

If you were injured because of someone’s negligence or intentional actions, then you have the right to seek compensation from those responsible — and a personal injury attorney can help.

Depending on the circumstances that caused your injuries, you may be able to file an insurance claim, workers’ compensation claim, or personal injury lawsuit. The compensation can help you cover the cost of your medical bills, lost wages, permanent injury, and other related expenses.

Led by founding partner Gene Riddle and partner Alex Riddle, our attorneys help clients in cases involving personal injury, workers’ compensation, Social Security Disability, and more. In 2025, Riddle & Riddle was named a “Best Family-Run Law Firm” by NC Lawyers Weekly.

Attorney Gene Riddle is a member of such prestigious organizations as Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum, The National Trial Lawyers Top 100, The National Association of Distinguished Counsel, and Super Lawyers. He also maintains the highest rating from Martindale-Hubbell, AV Preeminent (see disclaimer below). In 2023, he was included on the “Power List,” a selection of personal injury leaders published by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly.

Attorney Alex Riddle, who joined the firm to practice alongside her father in 2021, was inducted into Million Dollar Advocates Forum in 2023 (see disclaimer below). She was named a partner at Riddle & Riddle Injury Lawyers in 2025.

The legal team also includes associates Donny Dunn and Adam Smith. Mr. Dunn is the firm’s senior litigator and has been involved in many trials, and handled thousands of injury cases. He represents victims in motorcycle wrecks, truck accidents, auto accidents and other cases involving personal injury claims. Attorney Smith handles work injury claims and is a Board-Certified Specialist in Workers’ Compensation law.

Investigators On Staff

At Riddle & Riddle, our injury attorneys are supported by a team of accident investigators. These investigators are experienced, retired law enforcement officers who know how to handle crash scene and other accident investigations.

They can come directly to you to help you in the aftermath of your injury. In the most serious cases, we even bring in expert accident reconstructionists to help examine the circumstances surrounding the injury and prove liability to support your injury case.

What Should I Do After a Personal Injury Incident?

What Should I Do After an Accident?

There are several steps our personal injury attorneys recommend taking if you’ve been hurt due to someone else’s negligence:

  • Call 911 — If the situation is serious or there is any concern for safety, call 911 right away so law enforcement and medical personnel can respond. Your health and well-being should always come first.
  • Seek Medical Attention — If you’ve been injured (or think you may have been injured), get medical care as soon as possible. Follow the guidance of first responders and healthcare providers. Some injuries, such as head trauma or internal injuries, may not be immediately noticeable and require proper testing. Medical records will also be essential if you pursue a claim.
  • Take Photos — Take clear photos, or ask someone else to do so, to document what happened and the conditions involved. Capture images of your injuries, the surrounding area, any hazardous conditions, damaged property, equipment involved, warning signs (or lack thereof), and anything else that may be relevant. This documentation can be critical evidence in a personal injury claim.
  • Get Contact Information — Collect contact and insurance information from any other involved parties, when applicable. Be sure to also get names and contact details for any witnesses. Their statements can be important in supporting your claim.
  • Talk with Law Enforcement — Cooperate with responding officers or investigators and provide an honest, factual account of what occurred. Any official report may play an important role later. Be accurate and avoid speculating or assigning blame. Do not admit fault, especially if you are unsure about all the circumstances.
  • Report the Injury — Depending on the situation, you may need to notify an insurance company, property owner, employer, or other responsible party that an injury occurred. Do not provide a recorded statement or accept responsibility before speaking with a personal injury lawyer.
  • Call an Attorney — If you’ve been injured in a workplace incident, slip and fall, unsafe property condition, animal attack, defective product situation, or any other personal injury matter, contact Riddle & Riddle Injury Lawyers as soon as possible at (919) 778-9700 to discuss your rights and options.

Compensation Available in Personal Injury Cases

If you’ve been injured due to someone else’s negligence, there are several types of “damages” (compensation) that may be available to you.

An experienced personal injury lawyer can help sort through the unique facts and circumstances of your claim to determine what damages may apply. Potential damages available in an injury claim include:

  • Medical Expenses — This is the most common type of compensation awarded in a personal injury claim (see disclaimer below). This compensation is designed to reimburse you for the cost of your medical care, and can cover expenses related to ambulance transport, hospital stays, diagnostic testing, medications, surgeries, medical equipment, home care, and other important services and items.
  • Lost Wages — If you’ve suffered serious injury, you may need to take time off work to recover. Compensation for lost wages may be available to help cover the loss of income during this time.
  • Loss of Future Earning Potential — In the most tragic cases, an injury may require you to retire early, or you may not be able to return to your previous employment and be forced to take a job for lower pay. In these cases, you may qualify for additional damages to cover your lost earning potential. This amount can be difficult to calculate, and an experienced personal injury lawyer can help. In some cases, we’ll hire experts to compile a comprehensive life care plan to calculate these damages.
  • Pain and Suffering — Physical injury isn’t the only result of an accident. It’s very common to also suffer emotional injury such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or other psychological problems. You may also suffer permanent scarring or disfigurement which can severely affect your emotional well-being and quality of life. In these cases, damages for your pain and suffering may be available.
  • Punitive Damages — In rare cases involving “gross negligence” on the part of the at-fault individual, a jury may award punitive damages. This compensation is intended to “punish” the defendant for “willful or wanton” conduct that resulted in injury (see disclaimer below). Examples of such conduct include drunk driving or illegal street racing that results in an accident that injures another party.

Workers’ Compensation Information

Riddle & Riddle’s personal injury lawyers can also handle workplace injury claims. Workers’ compensation hearings are often necessary to get benefits for an injured worker. Attorney Adam Smith is a Board-Certified Specialist in Workers’ Compensation. This means he has been recognized by the North Carolina State Bar for his experience and competence handling these specific types of cases.
