For Riddle & Riddle, participating in Montross Day of Service was deeply personal. With founding attorney Gene Riddle’s strong ties to Carolina, Arden and Alex Riddle both graduating from the UNC School of Law, and many team members having personal connections to the community, carrying forward Eric Montross’s legacy of generosity felt like second nature.
Being able to work together on something that will support families facing such difficult circumstances made the day especially meaningful.

Hands-On Work, Real Impact
Three Riddle & Riddle team members—Arden Riddle, Le Ann, and Cody—spent the day assembling and packaging luminary kits at Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of the Triangle at 101 Old Mason Farm Road.
Setting out with a goal to pack at least 200 luminary kits, the team quickly got into a rhythm. By the end of their shift, they had exceeded their goal, completing more than 200 luminary kits ready for sale during RMHC’s upcoming fundraising campaign.
It was rewarding to see a simple hands-on task turn into more than 200 completed kits that can help support an important mission.

What Are Luminary Kits Used For?
Luminary kits are a central part of a cherished North Carolina tradition dating back decades. Assembled with paper bags, candles, and sand, the kits are sold across the community by local businesses and volunteer “Street Captains.”
On Christmas Eve (December 24th), entire neighborhoods line their driveways, sidewalks, and streets with illuminated bags, coming together to light up the night. Beyond creating a warm holiday display, every glowing light honors a family staying at the Ronald McDonald House.
The funds raised through kit sales go directly toward providing a home-like environment, hot meals, and essential support resources for families staying near UNC Children’s Hospital while their children receive treatment for serious illnesses.
Looking Ahead
Our team walked away from Montross Day of Service reminded of how much good can come from just a few hours of focused effort. Riddle & Riddle is honored to have contributed to such an impactful day, and we look forward to future opportunities to support North Carolina families when they need it most.

Purchase a Luminary Kit: Keep an eye out for RMHC’s seasonal fundraiser to light up your neighborhood for a great cause.
Volunteer: Donate your time to assist with house operations or group projects.
Prepare a Meal: Group volunteers can prepare home-cooked lunches or dinners for families staying at the House.
Donate: Financial contributions directly fund overnight stays, meals, and family support programs.
Eric Montross was a personal friend of mine. He was the most generous, honest, and sincere man I have ever met, in addition to my own father.
