Our client was raped and traumatized after a maintenance worker was allowed unfettered access to her apartment with a master key. A lawsuit was brought against the apartment owner and management company for failure to take reasonable safety measures.  We learned through investigation and discovery that the apartment defendants failed to conduct a background check which would have shown their worker to be a convicted felon. We demanded compensatory damages for our client’s suffering as well as punitive damages to punish the apartment owners. Our client underwent extensive counseling, and expert witnesses were retained to show the psychological impact of her injury. The claim was mediated before trial where we obtained a $1.5 million settlement for our client.
