Helping People in Need — A Mission from Day One
Gene Riddle built his legal career on a simple belief: help people in need. That guiding principle has remained constant through more than 40 years of legal practice. Since founding the firm in 1985, Gene has remained focused on what matters most — people, not case size or value. His relentless pursuit of fairness and justice has helped thousands of injured clients find hope, healing, and resolution.
At Riddle & Riddle, that belief is more than a tagline — it’s a way of life. This commitment was recently captured in an article from the Wake Forest School of Law, where Gene earned his law degree in 1985.
A Family Legacy in Law
From the Classroom to the Courtroom
Law has always been a part of Gene’s story. Though his father never practiced law, he instilled a love of justice in his children. Gene pursued his law degree at Wake Forest University, while his twin brother studied law at UNC Chapel Hill. That shared passion turned into action, and eventually, into a legacy that continues today.
Carrying the Torch: A New Generation
In 2020, Gene’s daughter Alex Riddle joined the firm, bringing new energy and perspective to the practice. By 2025, she became a partner — cementing the next chapter of the Riddle legacy. His oldest daughter, Arden, is set to graduate from law school in 2026 and may follow suit.
For Gene, law is not just a career — it’s a calling passed down from one generation to the next.
A Client-First Philosophy
Every Case Matters
From the beginning, Gene has believed in treating each client with dignity and respect, regardless of the case’s size or complexity. One of his most impactful cases involved a teenage girl wrongly blamed for a tragic crash. Through a complex and thorough investigation, Gene uncovered the truth and held the truly liable party accountable.
He still keeps her photo in his desk — a personal reminder of why the work matters.
Fighting for What’s Right
Gene doesn’t back down from tough cases. He takes on clients who need someone in their corner, especially when the odds feel overwhelming. Whether negotiating a settlement or arguing in court, he approaches every case with the same tenacity, preparation, and compassion.
Justice, in Gene’s world, is never rushed — and never done halfway.

He credits his alma mater, Wake Forest, for shaping that philosophy — reminding him to serve not just the law, but also humanity.

Family at the Heart of the Firm
Gene continues to lead Riddle & Riddle with the same dedication he started with decades ago. Now working alongside his daughter Alex — and preparing for his younger daughter, Arden, to possibly join after her upcoming graduation from UNC School of Law — Gene sees the firm as more than a business. It’s a part of his family.
Each client who walks through the door becomes part of that story, too. As Gene says, “We strive to treat every client like family.”
It All Began at Wake Forest — And the Journey Isn’t Over
Gene often reflects on the lessons he learned at Wake Forest School of Law, where his passion for advocacy was first shaped. Even now, after decades of service, he has no plans to retire.
He still feels called to fight for those who can’t fight for themselves — and he’s not slowing down anytime soon.
