Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are toxic chemicals used for decades in products like firefighting foam, nonstick cookware, and waterproof fabrics. Known as "forever chemicals" because they don’t break down in the environment or the human body, PFAS have been linked to cancer, liver damage, immune dysfunction, fertility problems, and more. In 2025, PFAS lawsuits against the manufacturers of PFAS continue to expand—impacting thousands of consumers across the country.
We are actively investigating these claims. If you believe you or a loved one has suffered from a potentially linked health problem due to PFAS exposure, call 1-800-525-7111 for a free case review.
Key Developments in PFAS Lawsuits
As of July 2025, PFAS lawsuits continue to move forward across the country as plaintiffs seek compensation for health problems potentially linked to PFAS “forever chemicals.”
Recent developments include:
3M’s $450 Million New Jersey Settlement
In one of the year’s most notable outcomes, 3M reached a $450 million settlement with the State of New Jersey in May 2025 for PFAS contamination at the Chambers Works site. The deal includes more than $60 million for environmental cleanup and natural resource damages, with installment payments through 2050. However, this state-level agreement does not include personal injury claims—those lawsuits remain active and are moving forward across the country.
Gore-Tex Manufacturer Sued for Water Contamination
WL Gore & Associates, maker of Gore-Tex, is facing lawsuits over alleged PFAS contamination in drinking water near its Maryland facilities. PFAS levels were reportedly found at up to 700 times the EPA's new limits. Residents of Elkton and surrounding areas have filed a class action, claiming increased cancer rates and other health issues. The State of Maryland has also brought an environmental enforcement suit against the company.
Dallas Sues 3M, DuPont, and Others for $228 Million
The City of Dallas recently joined a growing list of municipalities filing lawsuits for the costs of removing PFAS from their drinking water. In May 2025, the city filed a $228 million suit against more than 20 chemical companies, alleging they knowingly allowed PFAS to contaminate local water sources. Dallas follows other major cities—including Philadelphia, Chicago, and San Diego—in seeking compensation for cleanup and damage to public water systems.
