Roundup Settlement Tops $10 Billion

Bayer, the maker of Roundup, has negotiated a Roundup settlement that will pay victims who have allegedly suffered cancer due to the toxic weed killer. The company will pay more than $10 billion to settle tens of thousands of Roundup lawsuits.

According to the Roundup settlement announcement, Bayer will spend as much as $9.6 billion to compensate potential victims involved in current litigation. Another $1.25 billion will be set aside for future claims.

IMPORTANT: While most Roundup lawsuits have already settled (or are in settlement negotiations), there is still time to file a Roundup claim provided the case meets certain criteria. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma or chronic lymphocytic leukemia after exposure to Roundup, please call 1-800-525-7111 today for a free consultation.

The Roundup settlement contains no admission of liability or wrongdoing. Since purchasing Roundup’s original manufacturer, Monsanto, for $63 billion in 2018, Bayer has repeatedly claimed that Roundup weed killer is safe.

In a statement, Bayer CEO Werner Baumann said that “the Roundup settlement is the right action at the right time for Bayer to bring a long period of uncertainty to an end.” Baumann called the $10 billion settlement “financially reasonable” when compared with the potential costs of prolonged litigation.

The settlement is one of the largest ever in U.S. civil litigation. Nora Freeman Engstrom, a professor at Stanford University Law School told the New York Times that “It’s rare that we see a consensual settlement with that many zeros on it.”

Roundup Settlement: What Does It Mean for Victims?

The $10 billion Roundup settlement will be used to pay roughly 125,000 potential victims who claim that Roundup caused their non-Hodgkins lymphoma and other cancers.

The settlement covers roughly 95,000 cases, but not all involved in Roundup lawsuits have agreed to the settlement’s terms. According to the New York Times, at least 30,000 Roundup cancer claims plaintiffs have not yet joined the agreement.

Fletch Trammell, an attorney who represents some of the 30,000 who have not yet agreed to the settlement, said that the announcement does not mean these cases are over. “It’s like putting out part of a house fire,” he said.

According to the New York Times, individuals will likely receive payments of $5,000 to $250,000, depending on the strength of their cases against Roundup.

Does Roundup cause cancer?

Roundup contains glyphosate, a potentially dangerous chemical that is classified as a “probable carcinogen in humans” by the World Health Organization. Numerous studies have linked glyphosate to cancer, particularly non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Given the scientific evidence available, it seems likely that Roundup causes cancer.

Non-Hodgkins lymphoma is a type of cancer that spreads throughout the immune system. This type of cancer can be particularly deadly.

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma, B or T-cell or chronic lymphocytic leukemia after exposure to Roundup weed killer, you deserve justice and may be entitled to financial compensation.
