What is NDMA?

NDMA (N-nitrosodimethylamine) is a naturally occurring chemical that is classified as a “probable carcinogen” by various health organizations and regulatory agencies, meaning that it may cause cancer in humans.

NDMA, the potentially cancer-causing contaminant found in Metformin, has been classified as a probable carcinogen by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), among others.

Metformin is the latest of several drugs in which potentially cancer-causing NDMA has been found. Thousands of lawsuits have been filed against manufacturers of Zantac, alleging that NDMA contamination in Zantac causes cancer.

“The public definitely should be concerned about the rapidly growing discovery of carcinogens in medications, especially in those that are taken on a daily basis where even small contaminations can add up over time.”

-David Light, CEO of Valisure
