Zantac Lawsuit Update
A federal judiciary panel has sent 140 Zantac lawsuits to the Southern District of Florida, where they will be consolidated into Multidistrict Litigation (MDL) proceedings.
According to the United States Panel on Multidistrict Litigation, lawsuits alleging that Zantac causes cancer “could be a large litigation.”
The Zantac lawsuits allege that companies which manufactured the brand-name and generic blood pressure medication knew its active ingredient, ranitidine, was contaminated with potentially cancer-causing NDMA.
FEBRUARY 2023 UPDATE: Due to developments in the litigation, at this time we can no longer accept additional Zantac claims. Please stay tuned to our website for the latest information and updates.
Cancers potentially caused by contaminated brand-name Zantac and generic ranitidine include:
- Bladder cancer
- Colorectal cancer
- Kidney cancer
- Stomach cancer
- Intestinal cancer
- Liver cancer
- Lung cancer
- Thyroid cancer
- Brain cancer
- Throat/nasal cancer
- Ovarian cancer
- Testicular cancer
- Uterine cancer
- Breast cancer
- Esophageal cancer
- Pancreatic cancer
- Prostate cancer
- Leukemia, non-Hodgkins lymphoma, and Multiple Myeloma
Over-the-counter Zantac was recalled in October 2019 after testing by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) detected elevated levels of NDMA — a known human carcinogen — in ranitidine-containing drugs.
Manufacturers named in the Zantac cancer lawsuits include:
- Sanofi-Aventis US
- GlaxoSmithKline
- Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals Inc.
- Pfizer
Zantac and other ranitidine-containing medications were recalled in October 2019 by the FDA for what it called “unacceptable” levels of the cancer-causing chemical NDMA.
IMPORTANT: A federal judge recently ruled against lawsuits concerning generic Zantac. At this point, we can only accept cases concerning use of brand-name Zantac OR “mixed” use of brand-name Zantac and generic equivalents.

Wisner, whose firm won multi-million and billion-dollar verdicts against Bayer AG in Roundup lawsuits, said that Zantac lawsuits “will dwarf what we saw in Roundup.”
