5 Tips for Properly Avoiding a Rear-End Collision

There are several ways that drivers can lower their chances of being involved in a rear-end collision, including:
  1. Try to keep a two to four-second wide space between you and the vehicle in front of you. Doing so, will often give you enough time to avoid rear-ending the other car or truck if it stops unexpectedly.
  2. Keep a lookout as far ahead as possible while driving to spot any potential issues that would lead to you having to stop suddenly.
  3. Stay aware of where the vehicles around your car or truck are located as you travel through traffic together.
  4. When you stop behind another car or truck at an intersection, pull up behind them just far enough to where you can still see their rear tires touching the road.
  5. Avoid distracted driving, including talking to passengers, texting, operating a GPS or using a handheld device, such as a cell phone.
