Potential Zantac Cancer: What is the Danger?

In late 2019, an independent lab warned the FDA that it had discovered NDMA contamination in ranitidine, including brand name Zantac. NDMA is a volatile organic compound that is found in trace amounts in water and food — but at elevated levels it may cause cancer. Specifically, the FDA stated that it had detected elevated levels of potentially cancer-causing NDMA in Zantac and generic ranitidine, and that contrary to previous reports, elevated NDMA levels were associated with all types of storage conditions.
