Congressional Committee Alleges Fisher-Price Knew Its Rock n’ Play Sleeper Was Deadly
Did Fisher-Price know its defective baby sleeper could cause death?
Following the Fisher-Price baby sleeper recall in 2019, congressional inquiry has uncovered alarming information concerning risks associated with the Rock n’ Play sleeper.
In June 2021, a congressional report alleged that for years Fisher-Price ignored various warning signs that its Rock ‘n play sleeper was deadly. According to The Week, the House Committee on Oversight and Reform connected the product to over 50 infant fatalities. Furthermore, the committee’s report suggests that Fischer-Price did not seek any guidance from pediatricians or other health care professionals before placing the inclined sleeper on the market. In fact, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that all infants sleep on a flatbed as opposed to an inclined rocker. Additionally, in 2019 the AAP even went as far as to demand a recall of the Fisher-Price Rock n’ Play. The congressional committee also alleged that while Fisher-Price was aware that the product could cause severe injury or death, they continued to keep it on the market.
Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) alleged that Fisher-Price allowed “corporate greed” to interfere with the company’s obligations to consumers, citing “clear evidence” that the defective product resulted in wrongful death.

Fisher-Price Rock n’ Play Sleeper Death Risk
According to an investigation conducted by the Washington Post, in 2009 Fischer-Price came out with an innovative inclined sleeper, designed to help babies sleep throughout the night. The Rock ‘n Play sleeper was designed like a recliner to hold babies at a 30-degree incline. However, according to reports, no significant research or safety tests were conducted on the sleeper prior to it being sold in store. Instead, Fischer-Price consulted a pediatrician for the first time eight years after the product was released.
The consequences were severe and multiple infant deaths are allegedly connected to the defective product. Our wrongful death attorneys are actively investigating these claims and we are determined to hold Fisher-Price accountable for any potential negligence or wrongdoing.
Fisher-Price Rock n’ Play Sleeper Recall
In 2019, Fisher-Price issued a product recall for the Rock n’ Play sleeper, after more than 30 infant fatalities were reported connected to the defective product. To date, more than 50 infant deaths are alleged to have been caused by the defective Fisher-Price sleeper.
To prevent further injuries or deaths, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) now mandates that all products intended for resting infants meet certain safety criteria within one year of being on the market. This new regulation applies to any product that an infant might sleep or rest in. According to the CPSC, this rule aims to mitigate the common misconception that all infant sleeper products are safe and heavily regulated.
