Two Killed in Fayetteville Motorcycle Accident

A motorcyclist and passenger were killed in a motorcycle accident on Sunday evening in Fayetteville, North Carolina, according to reports from WRAL.

Fayetteville Motorcycle AccidentThe motorcycle accident occurred near the intersection of Bunce Road and St. Louis St. around 5:20 pm. According to police reports, the motorcycle and an SUV were traveling in different directions on Bunce Road when the accident occurred. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene while the passenger later died at the hospital.

The driver of the SUV was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Additional circumstances surrounding the accident were not immediately clear, and Fayetteville police have reached out to the public for help.

Motorcycle Accidents and Fatalities in North Carolina

Deadly motorcycle accidents are unfortunately increasingly common in North Carolina.

According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), there were 170 motorcycle accident deaths in 2018, up 21 percent from 141 deaths in 2017.

The increase in accidents have been blamed on a growing population and the increasing popularity of motorcycles in the state. A report by CBS17 in 2019 stated that motorcycle sales were up 15 percent in the last year.
