In recent years, however, the FDA has found evidence of asbestos contamination in Johnson & Johnson talcum powder. For decades, allegations have been made that the company was aware that its talc-based baby powder may be contaminated with cancer-causing asbestos… and did nothing to warn or protect consumers about potential ovarian cancer, mesothelioma, and uterine cancer risk.
Talcum Powder and Uterine Cancer Risk
A 2010 study by Stalo Karageorgi reported for the first time a link between genital (perineal) use of talcum powder and uterine cancer risk. This study suggested that talc may cause inflammation in the endometrium (the lining of the uterus).
This could lead to endometrial cancer, which according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine is the most common type of uterine cancer.

What is Uterine Cancer?
Uterine cancer or “womb cancer” occurs in the muscular organ where the fetus grows when a woman becomes pregnant.
There are two major types of uterine cancer:
- Uterine Sarcoma: These cancers are found in the myometrium (muscle layer) or the supporting connective tissue of the uterus. Subtypes of this cancer include leiomyosarcomas and endometrial stromal sarcoma.
- Endometrial cancers: These cancers begin in the endometrium (the cells that make up the inner lining of the uterus). Subtypes of these cancers include adenocarcinoma, carcinosarcoma, squamous cell carcinoma, undifferentiated carcinoma, small cell carcinoma and transitional carcinoma.

- Vaginal bleeding or discharge
